The Colombo Tea Auction saw 5.18 million kg of tea on offer this week with 2.19 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 1.84 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades, among others.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues select best BOP1/OP1s were generally firm, whilst below best varieties too maintained following quality. Others and poorer sorts were fully firm. Select best OP/OPAs were generally firm, whilst best varieties were marginally easier. Below best together with poorer sorts maintained. Select best Pekoe/Pekoe1's were generally firm, whilst improved below best varieties too maintained.
Others and mixed varieties were barely steady. In the Small leaf catalogues select best FBOP/FBOPF1s were fully firm to dearer, whilst improved below best varieties gained substantially.
There has been improved demand in the Ex-Estate catalogues. Best Western BOP/BOPFs gained upto Rs.100; below best and others were firm to dearer upto Rs.50. Well-made Uva BOP/BOPFs gained Rs.50 to Rs.100 whilst others maintained. CTC BP1s maintained, whilst the best CTC PF1s gained Rs.50 to Rs.100. (SD)
