A drop in quantities was observed this week compared to last week at the Colombo Tea Auction where 4.49 million kg of tea were on offer. Low Grown main Grades comprised 1.77 million kg and 1.67 million kg were High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
In the Leafy and Semi catalogues select best BOP1/OP1s were fully firm, whilst a range of improved below best varieties gained following quality; others and poorer sorts maintained. Well-made OP/OPAs in general were fully firm, whilst improved below best varieties were irregular following quality. Teas at the lower end maintained.
In the Premium Flowery catalogues well-made tippy teas attracted improved demand whilst others maintained.
Fair general demand at lower rates prevailed at this week's Ex-Estate auction. Better Western BOP/BOPFs were lower Rs.50 to Rs.100 and at times more with the below best and bottom being irregularly lower up to Rs.50. Nuwara Eliya BOPs were mainly unsold. BOPFs were lower up to Rs.100.
Medium BOPs were about firm, whilst others were lower upto Rs.50. BOPFs lost Rs.20 to Rs.30. CTC BP1s were about firm. Better PF1s were Rs.100 and more lower and the bottom about firm. (SD)
