Tea production in Sri Lanka has increased by 4 million kg last month totaling 22.38 million kg compared to the same period last year that recorded a yield of 18.21 million kg.
High Growns have remained static, while the Mid Growns have shown a marginal increase. Meanwhile, Low Growns have recorded a fairly significant increase compared to the corresponding month of 2020, Forbes and Walkers tea report stated this week.
Cumulative production for January – February totaled 45.5 million kg recording a gain of 5.35 million kg compared to 40.15 million kg during the same period last year. On a cumulative basis, High Growns have shown a marginal decrease, while the mid and Low Growns have shown an increase, with Low Growns showing the highest gain.
Meanwhile on a cumulative basis, all elevations have shown a marginal gain YOY when compared to the corresponding period of 2020, the report stated. (SD)
