Colombo Dockyard PLC resumes operations

Business

Shipyard operations at the Colombo Dockyard PLC resumed on Sunday November 1 while giving priority to regulatory health guidelines.
The company said in a media release that the management has taken proactive measures to carry out nearly 2,000 PCR screening of the yard team to-date and positive cases are being treated while the first contacts have been quarantined and the situation is being diligently attended in coordination with the authorities. It did not say how many of the workers were tested positive with COVID-19.
“Colombo Dockyard, being a Colombo Stock Exchange-listed firm and a socially responsible corporate has taken all possible measures to ensure the welfare of employees and their families during this COVID-19 outbreak. Our team has gone to the extent of providing essential support to the relevant hospitals where our employees are being treated. An in-house task force is continuously following up on the well-being of the affected members and families,” it said.
The ship repair and shipbuilding teams are housed in special accommodations (hotels) and health screened/cleared and are transported to the shipyard during work hours. This process will be reviewed for any further improvements as the operation continues and numbers will be increased to meet the production requirements.
