Colombo shares on Friday opened mixed amidst a persistent political crisis after the speaker of parliament said on Monday he would not accept President Maithripala Sirisena’s sacking of Ranil Wickremesinghe and appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as the prime minister.
The main All Share Index was down by 0.05 per cent at 10.40 am to stand at 5,927.63 and S&P Index was up by 0.29 % to stand at 3,072.82 on a turnover of Rs. 16.6 million. Colombo’s exchange has slipped 6 per cent as at Thursday's close amidst strong retail investor participation stemming from the recent appointment of Mr. Rajapaksa who the traders see as proactive to the stock market.
