Were some stock brokers summoned to the CID?

Speculation was rife in the Colombo stock market a while ago (around 12. 30) on Monday that some brokers had been summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

However there was no independent verification of these reports as other brokers said they were unaware of such a development. One source said the ‘call’ may be connected to the probes on insider trading by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) allegedly by the stock mafia which were suspended after a new chief was appointed about two years ago.

Since opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena won the January 8^th presidential poll, an avalanche of complaints has come in of widespread corruption and mismanagement during the tenure of the previous government. – Ends -
