Sri Lankan tourism authorities issuing a statement on the current situation in Kandy on Thursday afternoon said that tourists could now resume their travel plans to the hill capital and noted that the area is “fast returning to normalcy.”
“The situation in Kandy is improving and the area is fast returning to normalcy. No violent incident has been reported from the district in the last 18 hours,” the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Chairman Kavan Ratnayaka said in the statement.
They also noted that tourists were issued with special travel passes by the local Police authorities to allow tourists who chose to move out of Kandy due to the curfew. The curfew imposed since last night was lifted this morning.
The statement also noted that the situation in Kandy had no impact on other parts of the country and that the “day to day affairs and activities took place smoothly outside the Kandy district.” (SD)
