Celebrating Scholarly Excellence at the RIC Convocation 2024

Education

“This is not the end; rather it’s a new beginning filled with endless possibilities. Dream big, work hard, and never underestimate the impact you can have on the world. The world is waiting for your unique contributions, and we have no doubt that you will make a lasting mark.”

Dr. James Abdey | RIC Convocation 2024

Associate Academic Director, University of London Programmes at LSE

Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) celebrated the achievements of their graduates, diplomates and CertHE recipients who completed their University of London degrees in Law, Data Science, Economics, Management, Finance, Banking, International Relations and Social Science as well as Engineering, Science and Environmental Science programmes through the Deakin pathway programmes (Australia) at the RIC Convocation 2024 held on 15th February amidst a distinguished audience.  The Chief Guest for this year’s ceremony was Prof. Mary Stiasny, Pro-Vice Chancellor, International, Learning and Teaching, University of London. Dr. James Abdey, Associate Academic Director, University of London Programmes, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and Ms. Patricia McKeller, Dean of Undergraduate Laws, University of London graced the occasion as Guests of Honour with the esteemed presence of the RIC academics, administrative staff, parents and well-wishers.

Accolades Won

Noteworthy results included an impressive tally of 16 World Prizes, an astounding 27 First Classes for the Economics, Management, Finance and Social Sciences degree programmes, and 3 awards of Certificates of Excellence for the LLB programme, amongst many other accolades achieved by the RIC graduates at the University of London Examinations held in 2023. Additionally, the prestigious Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship for the Deakin Pathway programmes was won by Ms. Sandavi Jithmini Rathnayake (Advanced Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering) which was exclusively presented to the overall best performing RIC student transferring to Deakin in the year 2024 which covers 50% of the international tuition fees.

Success of RIC Alumni

Graduates of RIC have stepped out into the corporate sector, making a significant impact wherever they go. It is truly commendable that RIC alumni are sought after by distinguished corporates, including business and law that appreciate their capabilities. We believe this reflects the talents of these students, as well as the high standards of the University of London programmes that have prepared them for the future ahead. Further, it is impressive that RIC graduates have continued their higher education at reputed universities including Harvard University, London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Cambridge, University of Warwick, and other top-ranked universities globally. We believe this testifies the degree of eminence held by the University of London study programmes which allows entry to such reputed universities for their postgraduate studies, upon receiving outstanding results for the University of London undergraduate programmes.

The achievements celebrated at the Convocation 2024 are a culmination of goal orientation, hard work, and commitment demonstrated by both the students and the highly qualified panel of academics at RIC. It is a moment of pride and honour for all involved, and RIC extends its heartfelt congratulations and kudos to the graduates, diplomates and CertHE recipients for their remarkable accomplishments.
