Bureau Veritas Sri Lanka has initiated a project aimed at reforesting Bundala National Park. The primary objective is to restore the natural habitat in the Hambanthota District. Under this project, a total of around 681 seedlings consisting of woodapple, wild Mango, Weera, Palu, Maliththan varieties will be planted per acre.
With the new generation of seedlings, the maintenance of this plant nursery will include complete overseeing, from planning to nurturing their growth.
Engaged in laboratory testing, inspection and certification services Bureau Veritas has set a target to achieve carbon neutrality as an organization by 2050. Their efforts towards this goal began in 2020 and encompass a range of environmental initiatives, including tree planting initiatives.
The project is partnered by the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society (WNPS) and Vidul Plantation Pvt Ltd. Begun on 10th June, many employees including its General Manager, Harsha Wanasinghe took part in the first event. The Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) along with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura were the project advisory partners.
