Recently, a colleague reminded me of a remarkable experiment. Two plants of the same kind were placed in separate rooms. In Room A, negative words were spoken over the plant, while in Room B, only positive words were spoken. All other conditions were identical. Over time, the plant in Room A began to wither and die, while the plant in Room B grew strong, healthy, and eventually bore fruit.
Power of Words
This raises an important question: what kind of words do we speak over our lives, businesses, children, and even our country? Are they positive or negative? It is easy to blame circumstances, but we must train ourselves to believe in the positive and speak words of encouragement over every area of life.
Setting Positive Goals
Nothing can stop a person with the right mental attitude from achieving their goals. Recently, we witnessed Artemis II travel farther than humanity had ever gone, exploring the far side of the moon and returning safely. This achievement demonstrates that success comes from belief, preparation, hard work, and learning from failure. The team envisioned the journey, believed in it completely, and turned it into reality for the world.
Science and Changing Beliefs
Science continually challenges old assumptions. Once, people believed the world was flat, but it was later proven to be a globe. Even recent images from Artemis II confirm this. Similarly, it was once thought that the brain stopped growing after a certain age, making injuries permanent. Today, neuroscientists believe the brain can continue to grow, and even major injuries may be reversible.
The Need for Change
Human nature often hopes and prays for change, yet real transformation begins when we change ourselves. For example, as we study and learn, education reshapes us. By understanding the principles that govern the world, we become wiser, and in turn, the world around us changes.
Living in the Moment
Every moment matters, for tomorrow is never guaranteed. Love the present and give your best. Flowers bloom out of dark nights, just as our souls are restored through rest and renewal each night. Life is a succession of moments - so live each ‘moment’ fully. Rejoice with those who are happy, mourn with those who grieve, and extend a helping hand whenever possible, for opportunities may never return.
Crisis and Opportunity
In every crisis lies both danger and opportunity. Successful leaders thrive where others hesitate. When some give up, leaders step forward and say, “Leave it to me, I will sort it out.” This habit of embracing challenges sets them apart.
Lessons from Children
Children rarely give up easily. They keep trying until they master what they want to do. As adults, however, we often surrender too quickly. If we analyse why, we discover it stems from wrong beliefs we have embraced.
This week at work, my colleague arrived with her two daughters. To keep the younger one occupied, I asked her to draw a picture. To my surprise, this seven-year-old eagerly suggested ways to make the picture more colourful. I agreed to all her ideas, expecting it to take hours, but within minutes she proudly completed it. Marcel Proust once said, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” That child reminded me of this truth.
In this article, I have shared a few simple psychological principles that can transform our lives, businesses, and even the world. Add your own experiences to these principles and make them part of your life’s landscape - a living mural you can be proud of.
