President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his New Year message has urged the public to work towards establishing a strong economy and a disciplined society which practices unity.
"The country is in need of a strong and vibrant economy which gives priority to nationalistic aspirations," the President said in his message highlighting that such an economy would further cement the country's resolution for independence.
"I am also aware that a well-protected nation with a disciplined society is the foremost expectation of the people," Rajapaksa added explaining that it is against such a backdrop that the "soaring aspirations" of the present and future generations will become a reality.
He stressed that any force will not be allowed to obstruct the people from realizing their expectations.
