A total of 199 vehicles and 545 persons attempting to enter Western province without proper permission have been sent back on Tuesday (17), police said.
According to police, over 600 vehicles and 1123 persons entering the province were checked at 12 roadblocks located along the provincial border.
Meanwhile, Galewela police arrested a driver of a private bus heading to Colombo, with forged letters stating that it transports essential staff to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, National Hospital in Colombo and Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo.
According to Galewela police, the bus driver and conductor were arrested for transporting passengers violating inter-provincial travel restrictions. The bus has been taken into police custody.
