Sri Lanka Tourism and the Sri Lanka Air Force rescued foreign tourists trapped in the Nuwara Eliya area due to severe weather.
The Air Force carried out the operation at the request of the Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath and under the direct command of the Secretary of Defence Mr Sampath Tuyyakontha.
The rescued group included two German nationals, four South Africans, two British citizens, 11 Indians, and two Slovenians who were safely airlifted by helicopters to Colombo Port City in the afternoon.
