The National Building Research Organization’s Environmental studies and service division said the air quality of some cities had reached slightly unhealthy levels within the last 24 hours.
Accordingly, Puttlam, Jaffna, Anuradapura, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa and Anuradapura had reached slightly unhealthy levels.
The Index in Puttalam had recorded 128 , the highest level.
Other areas of the country recorded moderate Air quality conditions according to the index.
They forecasted that AQI level will be between 52–120 during the next 24 hours indicating moderate level in most of the cities, while slightly unhealthy level in Jaffna, Puttalam and Anuradhapura. Due to the trans boundary conditions happening from northern region, AQI level will be increased these days.
They called the public to seek medical advice if this condition causes breathing difficulties for sensitive individuals.
They added that maximum AQI level will be from 8.00 – 9.00 am and 4.00 - 5.00 pm.
