A 22-year-old youth from Iruthayapuram, Batticaloa found dead after he was taken into custody by Eravur police last night.
The victim is identified as 22-year-old Chandran Vithushan. He was taken into custody by intelligence officials attached to Eravur police and pronounced dead when admitted to Batticaloa hospital this morning.
The mother alleged his son could have been subjected to torture while in police custody indicating injuries in his body and demanded a fair probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, Batticaloa District Magistrate Karuppiah Selvarani visited the scene and ordered police to investigate the cause of death and report it back to the courts.
