Musicians, actors and dramatist have come together to propose a draft legislation to protect the professional, economic and cultural rights of artists.
The draft was handed over to the to Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, Dr Wijeyadasa Rajapaksha today morning.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Justice was advised to present the proposed bill to the Attorney General and the Legal Draftsman, while taking necessary steps to submit the bill to the Parliament by the month of May.
The draft bill was prepared by the veteran artists under the direction of the Media Adviser to the Minister of Justice Dr. Harsha B. Abeykoon.
Singer Saman de Silva, dramatist Douglas Siriwardena, Teledrama director Sudath Rohana and actress Nadeeka Gunasekara were among those who were present in handing over the draft document.
