The Ceylon Workers’ Congress will join hands with the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) to form local government councils after the two side reached a consensus on working together.
The CWC working committee had adopted a resolution to work with the NPP in local government bodies,CWC General Secretary Jeevan Thondaman in his X account .
He said local government requires grassroots level synergy and that is dictated by the mandate given in the polls.
“CWC did not contest the LG elections under the UNP nor any alliance, we contested on our own party symbol and we have the independence to make our choice. Secondly, we had several discussions with the NPP and the opposition parties as well. Despite the sincerity of the Leader of the opposition, the alliance partners’ seem to have a mind of their own,” Mr. Thondaman said.
He added that he will continue sitting in the opposition and I will take the advice of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe with regards to the economy but the localised alliance will not create any bias in his criticism or praise of the government.
