President Ranil Wickremesinghe has made it mandatory to obtain the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers before appointing any interim committees, the President's Media Division said.
The President has also instructed the Chairman of the Cabinet sub-committee for Cricket to spearhead efforts aimed at lifting the ban imposed by the International Cricket Council on Sri Lanka Cricket.
The announcements are made following the controversy surrounding the Arjuna Ranatunga-led interim committee appointed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe.
Addressing heads of media institutions on Tuesday, President Wickremesinghe said the government aims at a revival of cricket, similar to rebuilding of the economy following a major economic crisis.
The Court of Appeal issued a 14 day stay order preventing the functioning of the interim committee taking into consideration a petition filed by the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket Shammi Silva.
