Cabinet approves study on converting Local Councils to MC’s
Cabinet has decided to consider converting all local councils into Municipal Councils by giving them more powers, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena said.
Minister Gunawardena addressing the weekly Cabinet news conference said that several cabinet members requested for the change and accordingly a study will be carried out..
President Ranil Wickremesinghe too had pointed out in several countries the municipal councils were strong institutions, he said.
Meanwhile the Cabinet also approved to convert the Ampara and Mannar Urban Councils into Municipal councils.
