A former Member of Parliament and a member in the current Parliament were granted bail while a former minister was remanded in separate cases taken up today.
Former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Member of Parliament Milan Jayatilleke produced in courts over allegations of irregular practices followed in approving property plans was granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
The plans were approved when he was the Chairman of the Dompe Pradeshiya Sabha.
Badulla District MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake was released on 02 personal bails of one million rupees each by the Badulla Magistrate’s Court in connection with a case that had been filed by the Bribery Commission over the misuse of state funds when he was Chief Minister in the Uva Provincial Council.
Meanwhile ex-Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage was remanded until May 26 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court after he was produced in connection with the payment made to a Chinese firm for a consignment of substandard organic fertiliser in 2021.
An arrest warrant was issued on Mr Aluthgamage and in turn he appeared before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today.
