Civil activist Shehan Malak Gamage, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday, has been released on bail by the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court today.
The activist was arrested by the CID yesterday over comments he allegedly made at a media briefing on the Easter Sunday attacks.
The police said the activist was arrested based on the Attorney General's advice.
He was arrested in Panadura yesterday and was able to live broadcast his arrest over social media.
Archbiship of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith condemned the manner how Gamage was arrested adding that usually the police should be able to explain the offence before the arrest is made.
“This type of behaviour of the police could also affect us at the Human Rights sessions in Geneva”, he said.
