Individuals who have obtained a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) yet do not meet the cutoff, can choose to remain tax exempt after notifying the IRD in writing, provided that their monthly income does not surpass the threshold, according to the State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
The Minister said that information on this matter can be obtained from the IRD’s closest regional office.
State Minister Siyambalapitiya added that 230,000 people have received TIN numbers thus far, with 130,000 receiving them in June alone.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance anticipates to increase the number of people with TIN numbers to 730,000 by the end of July.
