Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces and Matale district will receive heavy rainfall (above 75mm) starting from tonight (02) due to a low-pressure condition forming in the south-east Bay of Bengal.
“The low-pressure in the south-east Bay of Bengal and the adjoining south Andaman Sea is expected to move west-northwestward towards the east coast of Sri Lanka while intensifying further during the next few days,” Meteorology Department forecasted.
“Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal until further notice,” the Department said in a weather warning.
Several spells of showers or thundershowers will also occur in Kandy and Hambantota districts.
The prevailing low pressure in the South-west Bay can cause rainfall or thundershowers in Sabaragamuwa province and in Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts during evening or night.
