The anticipatory bail application filed by former Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne, over his possible arrest by the Bribery Commission, was rejected by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga issued the order after taking into consideration the submissions made by the petitioner’s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne, PC and Assistant Director General (Legal) of the Bribery Commission Sulochana Hettiaarachchi.
The Bribery Commission had informed courts that he is due to be arrested over a controversial sand mining deal that allegedly caused a Rs. 26.2 million loss to the state.
However, Mr Gunaratne told courts that the contract was awarded on a Cabinet decision.
