The water level of hydropower reservoirs continues to fall drastically, making hydropower generation even more difficult, the Ministry of Power said.
Issuing a statement, the ministry stated that water levels of the Castlereigh, Maussakele, Samanalawewa, Kotmale, Victoria, Randenigala hydropower reservoirs continue to fall due to the prevailing dry weather conditions experienced throughout the country.
The ministry noted that these hydropower reservoirs coming under the Mahaweli scheme need to give priority to distributing drinking water and water needed for agriculture. They are also being used to generate electricity.
