Former Minister Duminda Dissanayake accused of possessing a gold-plated T-56 firearm was released by the Mt Lavina Magistrate Court today due to lack of evidence to prove the charges.
Magistrate Chathurika de Silva held that there was no direct and circumstantial evidence related to the case and therefore was releasing him..
The former Minister was in remand custody from May 23 after being arrested over the discovery of the weapon, but was granted bail on July 14.
The weapon was found inside a woman’s travel bag at the Havelock city apartment complex.
