Fairly heavy rainfall expected today

News

According to the Department of Meteorology, the development of a low-pressure area in the South-west Bay of Bengal is the reason behind the continued presence of low-level atmospheric disturbance over the island.

The coastal areas of the Northern, North-western, Western and Southern Provinces will occasionally see showers or thundershowers.

Several locations in the island will get showers or thundershowers after 2:00 p.m.

The forecast further noted that in certain locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, North-central, and Northern provinces, fairly heavy showers over 75 mm are probably in store.

In the meantime, numerous locations in the coastal regions surrounding the island will experience showers or thundershowers.

There will be variable or North-easterly winds with a 20-30 KMPH wind speed.

In certain sea locations along the coast of Trincomalee, Puttalam, Kankesanthurai, Galle, Colombo, and Hambantota, wind speed can reach as high as 50–55 KMPH.

The sea regions off shores extending from Trincomalee, Puttalam, Kankesanthurai, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota can occasionally be choppy.

The remaining marine areas surrounding the island are expected to tone down although strong gusts of wind and turbulent waters are foreseen during thunderstorms transiently.
