The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the former Governor of Western Province Azath Salley, this evening (16).
Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said he is being detained and interrogated under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) specially in connection with the investigations of the Easter Sunday attacks.
Mr Salley was arrested in the Kollupitiya area.
A separate police investigation is ongoing over controversial remarks the former governor made at a recent press conference, where he allegedly claimed that Muslims will only respect Sharia Law and not the laws imposed by Government.
