Former Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa earlier sentenced to death over the 2012 prison riots at Welikada was acquitted by the Supreme Court today.
Eight prison inmates were killed in the incident.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
