Railway workers are continuing their efforts to fully restore train services on the upcountry railway line by tomorrow after a landslide between Balana and Ihalakotte forced the cancellation of as many as 18 train trips.
However, at least four train trips from Kandy and Matale to Colombo Fort and Beliatta due tomorrow have been cancelled.
They are the 4:30 a.m. train from Kandy to Colombo Fort, the 4:50 a.m. train from Matale to Colombo Fort, the 05:00 a.m. train from Kandy to Beliatta and the 6:15 a.m. train from Kandy to Colombo Fort.
The clearing operation of the landslide near the Ihalakotte station continued today, despite adverse weather conditions.
Train services were first disrupted on Sunday evening following the landslide.
Several upcountry trains were cancelled immediately on Sunday evening disrupting the upcountry services and disappointing commuters who were planning to travel to their homes for the Deewali festival.
