Police have launched a hunt to apprehend a gunman who fled after a failed attempt to shoot the owner of a restaurant located on Beach Road in Matara last night (25).
Police said the suspect gunman had arrived at the restaurant last night in a car and opened fire on the restaurant owner. However, the owner escaped unhurt and no one was injured in the incident. The restaurant owner had then fought with the gunman, resulting in the latter fleeing the scene. The gun used in the shooting, four live rounds and an empty cartridge were recovered from the scene.
The gunman's identity or a motive for the shooting is yet to be established and Matara Police are conducting further investigations.
