Sixteen unions representing nurses, paramedics, public health officers and complimentary medical staff have launched a 24-hour strike in Western province today.
Government Nursing Officers’ Association President Saman Ratnapriya said the strike was mainly over salary anomalies and irregularities in promotions.
Picketing campaign will take place in front of the National Hospital in Colombo as well, he said.
However, emergency services will continue and health services in hospitals treating COVID patients, Cancer Hospital, Maharagama, Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children and Castle Street Hospital for Women will not be interrupted due to the strike, he added.
