The Department of Meteorology foresees that the Intertropical Convergence Zone in which the Northern and Southern Hemispheres intersect would take hold of the country’s atmospheric conditions today (October 17).
In light of its effect, the present wet weather conditions over the island ought to be intensified.
The Met. Department further predicts showers and thundershowers today after 2.00 pm.
Heavy rains over 100mm are due at several places in Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces.
The weather forecast further indicates a few spells of showers over the coastal areas of Western, Southern, and Eastern provinces and in Mannar and Jaffna districts during the morning hours.
In the meantime, showers or thundershowers are on the cards at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Kankesanthurai, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa.
Furthermore, several places in the other sea areas around the island will witness showers or thundershowers notably during the evening or night.
Winds will be south-westerly or inconstant in direction and will strike at 20-30 KMPH.
The sea areas around the island are expected to be toned down, yet, strong gusts of wind and turbulent waters are foreseen during thundershowers transiently.
