The Anuradhapura High Court ordered the acquittal of two men previously charged with a murder committed in Rajanganaya 27 years ago.
The acquittal was granted by Manoj Thalgodapitiya, the former High Court Judge of Anuradhapura and current Judge of the Kuliyapitiya High Court.
The defendants, identified as Dadigamage Premasiri, also known as “Ukkuwa,” and K. Wasantha Kumar, referred to as “K. Wasantha,” both residents of Rajanganaya, were acquitted on the grounds of insufficient evidence presented by the prosecution.
Judge Thalgodapitiya determined that the prosecution had not proven the charges against them beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was first filed in 1997.
