Nurses and other health workers at the Dambulla Base Hospital held a silent protest this afternoon demanding that authorities take certain steps to give them 'peace of mind' as they battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the demands made by healt workers are that pregnent nurses also be given leave as per the public administration circular issued by the Government, health sector trade unions be given representation in COVID prevention committees, health workers be entitled to special leave given to other Government employees, providing transport facilities for health workers, providing secure face masks, and giving peace of mind to health workers.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
