A group of civil society activists and associates of jailed former MP Ranjan Ramanayake held a birthday celebration outside the Welikada Prison this morning to celebrate the MP's 59th birthday.
The group, carrying a lifesize cardboard cutout of Mr Ramanayake, cut a birthday cake in front of the prison, where he is currently serving his sentence for contempt of court. They also subsequently held a protest demanding his release.
