The annual St Anthony’s feast at Kathchathivu islet saw quick business opportunities for street vendors where demand for Sri Lankan manufactured was bit high.
As devotees from both countries gathered on the island to take part in the two-day feast, Indians were seen purchasing popular Sri Lankan products such as soaps, ayurvedic products on the island.
Particularly, popular soap brands like Rani, Sunlight, Munchi biscuits were quite in demand. Both Indian and Sri Lankan devotees also engaged in old business mechanism of exchanging where two parties exchanged goods in value.
Fishermen from both countries said they have been engaged in this business for long time which they claimed to renew their bonds with Sri Lankan’s brethren despite soured relations in recent times due to fishing disputes.
