An attempt to launch a campaign known as “Keheliya Go-gama’ outside the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) demanding the arrest of Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was foiled with the arrest of five of the activist.
The activist were staging a protest outside the CID office in Fort following reports that Minister Rambukwella has been summoned to give a statement over the controversial import of substandard medicines.
However, Minister Rambukwella had sought for further time on the grounds he was attending to another court matter.
Soon after the activist were made aware that the Minister would not be calling over at the CID they announced that they were launching a campaign known as ‘Keheliya Go-gama’
But 10 minutes later the Police made an announcement calling them to disperse off and subsequently arrested five of them. The rest of the group of dispersed off.
Earlier in the day Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr. Saman Ratnakaye turned up at the CID to provide a statement. He was due to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.
