Low pressure area to southeast intensifies into depression
The Department of Meteorology has said that the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal to the southeast of Sri Lanka has intensified into a depression about 700 km southeast of Pottuvil. It is likely to intensify further into a Deep Depression within the next 24 hours.

Seaplane plunged into Gregory lake
In Nuwara Eliya, a seaplane that was preparing to land had plunged into Gregory lake. Two pilots who had been on board were injured in the crash and were admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District Hospital.

Two remanded for sheltering Ishara Sewwandi 
Nanda Kumar Thakshee and another individual were remanded until January 9 by Colombo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly aiding, abetting, and providing shelter to Ishara Sewwandi, the primary suspect in the murder of underworld figure ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’.
