9.20 PM : The SJB in a statement said they have unanimously decided to nominate Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa for the vacancy of the President. His name was proposed by party General Secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara and seconded by party Chairman Fieldmarshal Sarath Fonseka at a meeting held earlier in the day.

7.30 PM:SJB MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena confirmed at the party leader's meeting that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is in the country. 

4.50 PM: At a Party leaders meeting presided by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena  it has been decided that nominations to elect a new President from Parliament will be called on July 15 if the President resigns by Wednesday.  Nominations will be accepted on July 19 and a vote is due on July 20, 

4,45 Prime Minister is to seek the advice of the Attorney General on the procedure to be followed after the President's office falls vacant.

2.30 pm: Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in a statement says he is ready to   appoint a new President and Prime Minister.led government.

1.10 pm: President's office announces that all official statements of the President will be released through the Speaker in Parliament in future.

1.00 pm: Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe says that several ministers of the SLPP have handed over their resignations. He said the decision  was taken after several ministers met this morning.

12.50 pm:Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held a discussion with the Cabinet Ministers this morning (11) at the Prime Minister's Office.

All the Ministers who participated in the discussion were of the opinion that as soon as there is an agreement to form an All-Party Government, they are ready to hand over their responsibilities to that Government. : Prime Minister's Media Division.

12.05 pm: The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has called Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to summon Parliament as soon possible; Ranjith Maddumabandara. 

11.50 am: Senior Superintendent of Police R.A. Liyanage of the STF has been interdicted for the failure to prevent an attack on journalists on Saturday opposite the Prime Minister's private residence. 

11.40 am: Prime Minister's office takes over fertilizer distribution as Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has resigned.

10:25 am: Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene called for a special meeting with All Party Leaders today.

8:44 am: President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has officially informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he will be resigning as previously announced.- PM Office

After unprecedented protests in Colombo saw thousands of protesters making their way into the Presidential Secretariat, President’s House and Temple Trees last Saturday (9), the political crisis coupled with instability prevails in the country. 

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that they will resign from their posts on Saturday, but both are yet to hand over their resignation letters. 

Meanwhile, Opposition political parties are engaged in discussions on the possibility of forming a national government consisting of all political parties represented in the Parliament.
