A man who broke into a house in the Galkaduwa Yahanwala area had been arrested by the Weligama police yesterday.
The police said that the residents of the house which was robbed had managed to hold the man who broke into the house and tried to steal gold jewellery.
The suspect was identified as a 43-year-old resident of Beliatta, Kottegoda area.
Police said that the suspect was admitted to Matara Hospital after apprehending him as he had obtained injuries while trying to escape from the residents of the house which he tried to rob.
Police added that the suspect was taken into custody with a gold necklace worth LKR 665,000, a gold bracelet, three gold rings, a gold panchayudha, and an amount of LKR 3,100.
Further investigations are carried out by the Weligama Police.
