A thirty seven year old man was killed near a liquor store at Batapola last night the Galle Deputy Inspector General said today (June 24).
He said that the man was hacked with swards near the liquor shop after the man attempted to settle and argument between two groups who were drinking alcohol at the liquor store yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Ponnamperuma Arachchige Nuvan Sampath, who was a resident of Kobeyithuduwa Sinha Village, Batapola,
The incident occurred after the victim settled the argument between the two groups, and went to the cowshed near the restaurant to consume more alcohol. The incident sparked after two persons attacked him with sharp weapons. They had targeted his legs and seriously injured him and fled.
The victim was later admitted to Balapitiya Hospital, but succumbed to injuries early hours today.
Batapola police are conducting further investigations.
