Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mayantha Dissanayake appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) announced today that he was stepping down from the post.
Mr Dissanayake told the media that he was stepping down from the post following discussions with the party leader Sajith Premadasa earlier today.
He said his decision was made so that the vacancy could be filled with consensus of the members.
The opposition proposed the name of SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva. However ruling party members proposed Mr Dissanayake’s name.
Earlier Mr Lakshman Kiriella said that Mr Dissanayake had told him that he was not willing to step down.
