The Commission to Investigate Allegation of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has decided to file action against Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody on allegation of corruption over misappropriation of funds while serving at the Fertilizer Corporation in 2015, the Sunday Times reported today.
The action is to be filed in the High Court against the Minister and two others over charges of misappropriation of a sum of Rs eight million, the newspaper said in an exclusive report.
Mr Jayakody had served as the head of the Tender Board which awarded the particular tender during that period.
The investigations into the particular tender commenced following issues over how payments had been made and issues over the bond placed.
The Bribery Commission had commenced investigations considering the previous investigations carried about the misappropriation.
Minister Jayakdoy would be the first minister in the current government on whom action will be filed.
Earlier Batticaloa District ITAK MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam had raised the issue in Parliament that that a person interdicted over a financial fraud in the Fertilizer Corporation was serving in the NPP cabinet.
The move by the Bribery Commission comes in the wake of a string cases filed against former politicians ranging on various issues including corruption.
