Former DIG of the Terrorsim Investigation Department (TID) Nalaka de Silva was released from the case over an alleged assassination plot of VIPs including former President Maitripala Sirisena and former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa while he was the Defence Secretary.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered the release after the Attorney General informed courts that there was insufficient evidence to go ahead with the case.
DIG Silva was arrested in 2018 by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following a complaint by Namal Kumara of the Anti Corruption Movement citing the former TID head's involvement in an alleged assassination plot of the above VIPs.
