Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detectives have taken down an eight-page statement during a nearly four-hour interview with former First Lady Maithree Wickramasinghe with regard to their probe into former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s UK visit to attend a graduation ceremony at the University of Wolverhampton, where she was conferred an honorary professorship.
Five CID officers arrived at former President Wickremesinghe’s private residence at 5th Lane in Colombo at about 9 am on Friday. The CID team stayed at the residence till about 3.00pm, taking down Ms Wickramasinghe’s statement.
The CID team which arrived on Friday included the probe’s lead detective, Inspector Nalinda Herath, and a female CID officer.
