The Northern Railway Line would suspend to operate beyond Anuradhapura for five months from today (January 5) onward.
The Director General (Operations) of the Railway Department stated that this is due to the Mahawa-Omanthai railway track being closed for development.
Facilities for passengers expecting to travel beyond Anuradhapura or passengers expecting to come to Colombo by train from the Northern Province districts to have the ability to travel to and from Jaffna by bus are to be prepared.
In addition, a bus from other districts to Colombo is already active.
However, the citizens of the Northern Province claim that bus services are insufficient to provide the needs of the transportation services of the citizens, and thereby requesting rapid reconstruction of the rail tracks.
