Main opposition parties, trade unions and civil organization have vowed to go ahead with Wednesday’s protest campaign against the government.
The protest march against the government on a range of issues including calling the government to reduce the cost of living, stop oppression of the opposition and calling for the aboltiion of the Prevention of Terrorism (PTA) will commence from from Elphinstone Theatre, Colombo 10 at 3PM on Wednesday (November 2).
More than 50 trade unions, political parties, student associations, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Inter-University Student Federation are among organizations who have signed a joint statement pledging to defeat the oppression of the government, and take part in the protest campaign.
However Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Maunusha Nanayakkara, reacting to the proposed protest campaign questioning about the timing.
“If protests begin once again, tourists will stop coming again”, Mr. Nanayakkara added, explaining that the Aeroflot has commenced arriving in Sri Lanka and tourists too have returned, visiting areas such as Arugam Bay.
