The Cabinet has given the go-ahead to sign up 5,450 graduates to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ service, says the Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha.
Minister Premajayantha brought this into view whilst addressing a programme organized to provide guidance to school principals on the advancement of education standards in Badulla District said relevant recruitments will be made primarily for the main subject streams - Science, Technology, English and Foreign Languages.
He said that the enrollments will be set at the provincial level, adding that the teachers will be recruited for national schools by the Ministry of Education in due course.
Meanwhile, the Minister further added that the proposal to remodel and combine the 19 National Institutes of Education (NIEs) that are currently in force into one teacher training university at a future time has also been submitted by means of a Concept Paper.
Minister Premajayantha also said that preparations are already in order to provide textbooks and uniforms before the latter part of 2024.
