A member of the Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) has been arrested by the Ambalangoda Police for allegedly obstructing the duties of doctors at the Balapitiya Hospital.
Police said the PS member had arrived at the hospital with his father, who had taken ill, and about five others yesterday. The group had become involved in an argument with hospital staff and had allegedly become unruly and threatened doctors who were on duty.
Hospital doctors had informed of the matter to the hospital police post and officers there had arrested the PS member and handed him over to the Ambalangoda Police.
The PS member claims the incident occurred after an argument broke out between himself and doctors over a delay in treating his ailing father. The suspect is due to be produced before the Magistrate today.
